orbital-compute-budget

A data centre in orbit computes on sunlight and survives eclipse on batteries. This computes the hours that are actually usable.

The problem it answers

Orbital data centres are pitched on free cooling and free solar power. The catch is the shadow: in low Earth orbit a satellite spends a large fraction of every revolution in eclipse, where compute must live on stored energy. This library takes orbit parameters, panel output and battery capacity, and returns the effective compute hours per day that survive the arithmetic.

Earth eclipse · battery budget sunlit · compute + charge output: effective compute hours per day
